Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is the model I work with. Here are some myths and FAQ about it:
Does it mean you offer me solutions to my problems?
No. It means I know that YOU have all the answers you need. In fact, you are the only one who CAN solve your problems, because you know you best.
So what do we do?
I will ask you for your best hopes and preferred future so that we know where we are going on this journey.
Why do you ask about where we are going?
You know, how when you start driving, you put a destination in the GPS? We are on this journey together. You set the destination and course; I’m your escort.
Does it mean we can only talk about solutions?
No. I will listen to anything and everything you wish to share. I will aim our work, however, at helping you define the best new version of you.
What does “brief” mean?
As many sessions as my clients need, and not even one more. I have no set number of sessions.
When we work together, I will ask you a lot of questions, starting with “what is your best hope from working with me?”. The rest of my questions will be based on what you answer. I know that you have all the answers you need. I know you are the expert on your life and journey. I will see, I already see you, as a superhero, we’ll discover who this superhero is together. It’s my privilege and honor to be your therapeutic sidekick.
